چکیده

Information for identifying biodiversity hotspots species conservation involves the estimation of abundance, distribution and habitat preference. Adult crickets were sampled from four Agro ecological zones (AEZ) in Western Kenya during months June 2020 to January 2021 identified morphologically. Thirteen descriptive variables associated with topography, water, greenness, used create a model. Akaike information criteria (AIC) was applied estimate preference each cricket species. A total 3535 recovered, comprising 3335 insects belonging 6 200 others. Gryllus bimaculatus had highest relative abundance 28.43% while Brachytrupes membranaceus recorded least 4.67%. The diversity indices showed that natural vegetation index (H’= 0.361) dorminance (D = 0.194). Areas human settlement dominance 0.231) (d 0.010) respectively. results indicate can be classified into three groups, Group I ( Acheta domesticus , Diestrammena asynamora ) which preferred areas near settlement, II Scapsipedus icipe fields grasses III Gryllotalpa africana wet lands. This study concludes most habitats are vegetation, water bodies, having high shelter density away settlement. Conservation management targeting this edible insect should form part integrated measures focusing especially on hotspots. The neuromuscular mechanism of stridulation in crickets (Orthoptera: Gryllidae).

Study of the insect neuromuscular system appears very promising as a means of explaining behaviour in terms of cellular operation. The relatively small number of neurons, the ganglionic nature of the nervous system, the simplicity of the neuromuscular arrangement, and the repetitiveness of behavioural sequences all lend themselves to a solution of this problem. As a result, an increasing number...

Sound radiation and wing mechanics in stridulating field crickets (Orthoptera: Gryllidae).

Male field crickets emit pure-tone mating calls by rubbing their wings together. Acoustic radiation is produced by rapid oscillations of the wings, as the right wing (RW), bearing a file, is swept across the plectrum borne on the left wing (LW). Earlier work found the natural resonant frequency (f(o)) of individual wings to be different, but there is no consensus on the origin of these differen...

Trilling Field Crickets in a Zone of Overlap (Orthoptera: Gryllidae: Gryllus)

A bimodal distribution of pulse rates in Þeld recordings of calling songs suggests that the ranges of the morphologically similar Þeld crickets Gryllus rubens Scudder and G. nr. integer Scudder (5“integer”) overlap for at least 300 km in western Florida. When sons were reared from 42 females collected at 5 sites on 7 trips to this region during 1977Ð1978, those within a sibship had similar moda...

Record of Natula matsuurai Sugimoto (Orthoptera: Gryllidae: Trigonidiinae) and other sword-tailed crickets from India.

The genus Natula is a new record from the state of Rajasthan, India. Description of the species has been supported with photographs and line drawings leading to its identification. The other common sword-tailed crickets of the sub-family Trigonidiinae have also been described.

Molecular divergence between Gryllus rubens and Gryllus texensis, sister species of field crickets (Orthoptera: Gryllidae)

We assess the degree of sequence divergence in the maternally inherited mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) and cytochrome b (CytB) genes between two sister species of field crickets, Gryllus rubens Scudder, 1902 and Gryllus texensis Cade and Otte, 2000. We analyzed 1460 base pairs from 10 individuals of each species; individuals were sampled from areas of both allopatry and sympatry. Ov...
